A man was cleaning out his attic and found an old comic book. He went to a local dealer. The dealer had been saving money for over twenty years just in case a person with a book like this ever came through the door. The storeowner was able to purchase a copy of Detective Comics No. 27, which is famous for having the first appearance of Batman. It is thought to be worth between $250,000.00 – $500,000.00! Apparently, the only comic considered more valuable is the one in which Superman makes his first appearance. It is known as Action Comics No. 1.
Other treasures found in recent years have included:
* Baseball cards (especially rookie cards of baseball greats) * Old coins and currency * Stamps * Art * Letters * Pottery * Lights * Documents
* Stock certificates
Stories abound of a $20 painting from a garage sale fetching over $100,000 at auction. A chandelier that cost $4 going for $450 is not uncommon. Interestingly, finders of the articles almost never realize their true worth. They often just sell it to a dealer. From a legal point of view, it is better to get items appraised by folks who do not want to buy them from you. Otherwise, the appraisal you get maybe too low. Happy Hunting!
