UMKC Hall of Fame welcomes track standout in Class of 2014

UMKC Athletics announced the 2013-14 Hall of Fame class on Dec. 10. It is the sixth class in Kansas City history, with five individuals and one team making up the group. Joining the Hall of Fame this year is Brendan Flanagan (men’s soccer, 1993-96), Doug Fredrick (men’s track and field, 1997-2000), Lindsey Ramsey (softball, 2001-04) and Dee Dee Steele-Sigee (women’s track and field, 1996-99) from the modern era; Nancy Norman (women’s basketball coach, 1980-88) in the coaching category; the late Jim Job in the contributor category; and the 1982-83 women’s basketball squad in the team category. The official induction and dinner took place Jan. 10 at Municipal Auditorium’s Little Theater. Inductees were recognized during halftime of the men’s and women’s basketball games on Saturday, Jan. 11. Dee Dee Steele  – Women’s Track and Field (1996-99) Steele was an NCAA National Qualifier in the weight throw indoors in both 1998 and 1999, as well as a national qualifier in the hammer throw outdoors in 1998… In the weight throw, she won the Mid-Con Conference title in both 1998 and 1999, while winning the crown in the hammer in 1999…

Her long hammer throw of 175-11 still ranks second in school history, while her weight throw of 58-4.50 is third and shot put of 40-11.50 is fifth at UMKC.
