Millington Announces COVID-19 Response

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the declared national state of emergency, it has become necessary for city officials to take precautionary measures. Effective Monday, March 16, 2020 all activities and programming through the Millington Parks and Recreation Department have been canceled until April 1, 2020. This includes all activities at Baker Community Center and the Millington Gym. City parks will remain open, but residents are asked to take the sanitary precautions outlined by the Shelby County Health Department and Centers for Disease Control such as frequent hand washing with soap and water or the use of hand sanitizers.
Millington City Hall will remain open during regular business hours but residents are encouraged to use on-line bill payment or drop box behind city hall for water bills. Residents should know all Public Works functions including sanitation/trash collection, water treatment, and waste water treatment are staffed and continuing with no interruptions.
Millington Municipal Schools, along with the other municipal school districts, have made the collective decision to cancel classes, extracurricular activities and sporting events through Friday, March 27th. School officials are working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff.
In order to protect First Responders, 9-1-1 call centers are screening callers through a series of questions as an initial COVID-19 assessment. Answers from this initial assessment will determine the level of response and protection First Responders take to protect you, their safety and the safety of all healthcare professionals. Millington Fire and Police Departments have up-to-date guidance and proper protection to respond appropriately.
Millington City Courts is receiving guidance from the Tennessee Supreme Court amid COVID-19 concerns. Those details are still being worked on. Updates will be released as they become available.
The Millington Public Library will be open regular hours and all activities through April 1, 2020 are scheduled to take place. The Librarian reminds residents they have 12 public computers and free Wi-Fi for those needing internet access to complete on-line studying while schools are closed. Staff have increased the frequency of sanitizing and disinfecting; however, if you are feeling sick please refrain from coming to the library.
Our Public Safety officials are working with all local and state officials to ensure we have the most up-to-date information on this ever-changing pandemic. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
