Millington Announces COVID-19 Response
In
response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the declared national state of
emergency, it has become necessary for city officials to take
precautionary measures. Effective Monday, March 16, 2020 all activities
and programming through the Millington Parks and Recreation Department
have been canceled until April 1, 2020. This includes all activities at
Baker Community Center and the Millington Gym. City parks will remain
open, but residents are asked to take the sanitary precautions outlined
by the Shelby County Health Department and Centers for Disease Control
such as frequent hand washing with soap and water or the use of hand
sanitizers.
Millington
City Hall will remain open during regular business hours but residents
are encouraged to use on-line bill payment or drop box behind city hall
for water bills. Residents should know all Public Works functions
including sanitation/trash collection, water treatment, and waste water
treatment are staffed and continuing with no interruptions.
Millington
Municipal Schools, along with the other municipal school districts,
have made the collective decision to cancel classes, extracurricular
activities and sporting events through Friday, March 27th. School
officials are working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the safety
and well-being of students, faculty, and staff.
In
order to protect First Responders, 9-1-1 call centers are screening
callers through a series of questions as an initial COVID-19 assessment.
Answers from this initial assessment will determine the level of
response and protection First Responders take to protect you, their
safety and the safety of all healthcare professionals. Millington Fire
and Police Departments have up-to-date guidance and proper protection to
respond appropriately.
Millington
City Courts is receiving guidance from the Tennessee Supreme Court amid
COVID-19 concerns. Those details are still being worked on. Updates
will be released as they become available.
The
Millington Public Library will be open regular hours and all activities
through April 1, 2020 are scheduled to take place. The Librarian
reminds residents they have 12 public computers and free Wi-Fi for those
needing internet access to complete on-line studying while schools are
closed. Staff have increased the frequency of sanitizing and
disinfecting; however, if you are feeling sick please refrain from
coming to the library.
Our
