Star Staff Reports

In a statement provided to the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce, Millington Municipal Schools District Superintendent Jame “Bo” Griffin outlined his outlook for the upcoming 2020-21 school year.

Below is the statement from Griffin.
We wanted to reach out with an update as it relates to the 2020-2021 school year in light of Governor Lee’s Executive Order 50 today MMSD still plans to open on Aug 10. We are being attentive to new developments with the Shelby County Health Department, Tennessee Department of Education and other health care professionals and associations. We want our children and staff to feel safe when returning to school in the Fall. We are taking all necessary steps to ensure a Fall return will align with State, Federal and Local guidelines and protocols. We feel that it is paramount for our children to engage in a learning environment in which they feel safe and secure. This said, we still plan to move forward with our reopening plans for the 2020-2021 school year and will remain invested in the latest information from the Tennessee Department of Education and Shelby County Health Department.”

A Virtual Town Hall meeting was held on July 7 to answer any questions that you may have about reopening schools for the 2020-2021 school year. This Virtual Town Hall meeting is on the MMSD Facebook Page.
