Star Staff Reports
Regular audience members for Playhouse 51 productions will realize that a show in August is one month earlier than usual.  But with Millington Municipal Schools now in ownership of Harvell Civic Center and to accommodate school activities, Playhouse 51 has moved the opening show of their 14th season to August 18-20 and 26-27. But wait!  That’s one Friday night short of a full run.  Yes.  Even by moving to August, Playhouse has discovered a performance conflict with the annual Millington/Munford Bowl Game.  And you know what parking is like during that game!  Therefore, Playhouse will not be doing a performance on Friday, Aug. 25.  Instead, we’ll be cheering along with everyone else.  Go Trojans! For the other dates, however, Playhouse 51 presents the ‘phenomenally funny’ tribute to comedy and the game of golf, Ken Ludwig’s “The Fox on the Fairway.”  The show is sponsored by Mike Caruthers and USA Properties and presented in association with Millington Municipal Schools in Harvell Civic Center.  It’s directed by Jim Cacy. “The Fox on the Fairway” is a fun and funny comedy concerning the annual inter-club golf tournament between fierce rivals Henry Bingham at Quail Valley and Dickie Bell at Crouching Squirrel.  If you thought the rivalry between Millington and Munford was fierce, just wait until you see The Fox. And see it you must.  After a five-year losing streak, Bingham is certain he will win the trophy this year because he has a ‘secret weapon’ player to carry the day for him.  With that confidence he wagers heavily with Bell, a whole lot of money plus his wife’s beloved antique shop, The Old Crock.  However, just when he thinks he’s got the winning ticket, Bingham finds out his secret weapon has deserted to the other side. Where and how is he going to find a last-minute replacement?  And what will Muriel do to him when she finds out she’s about to lose her shop, not to mention her expensive antique vase he just gave away as an incentive for his new ‘secret weapon.’ And what’s going on with that new kid he just hired and his waitress?  In short, Henry Bingham’s in a whole lot of trouble.  And Dickie Bell just keeps charmingly making it worse. “The Fox on the Fairway” (rated PG-13 for some adult language) is an evening packed with hilarious entertainment and a perfect way to begin to say goodbye to summer.  Say, who knew golf could be this funny?  Answer:  Ken Ludwig. Join Playhouse 51 for the start of its 14th season with “The Fox on the Fairway” Aug. 18, 19, 20, 26 and 27 at Harvell Civic Center, 8077 Wilkinsville Road.  Don’t forget:  no performance on Friday, Aug. 25.  Tickets are available at the door for $12 Adults, $10 Students, Seniors, and Military.
