The 2021 TSSAA Football season kicked off Thursday night under the lights of Munford Football Stadium.
Tipton County rival the Covington Chargers were the invited guests for some Thursday night football.
The host Munford Cougars were overwhelmed by the Chargers 41-8.
Covington (1-0) got rolling early in the contest when Jalen Fayne broke loose for a 35-yard touchdown run to make the score 7-0.
After a Munford punt, the Chargers were starting another drive toward paydirt when the Cougars forced a fumble. Munford recovered the loose ball leading to a scoring drive. Auvic White was the running force for Munford (0-1) setting up a 1-yard quarterback keeper by Jordan Bell. Munford’s two-point conversion gave the Cougars an 8-7 advantage.
Still in the first quarter, Covington regained the lead when AC Mason reached the end zone on a 39-yard run. The Chargers went ahead 14-8.
Right before halftime Covington executed a back breaker on Munford when Jamarion Dowell exploded for a 59-yard touchdown run with 51.6 second left on the clock.
The Chargers’ 21-8 halftime advantage matured into a 41-8 victory.
The second half scoring started with a Mason touchdown reception from 24 yards out from quarterback Tanner Stewart.
Munford will try to reach the win column for the first time in 2021 traveling to Millington this Friday for the annual M&M Bowl.
Covington will make its home debut Friday night hosting Jackson North Side.
