Autonomous Cars

Autonomous driving is certain to fundamentally change people’s lives and use of transport.

According to Huawei, autonomous vehicles sold in 2030 will account for 10% globally.

In 2030, so-called “robotaxi” services provided by self-driving fleets are expected to provide services. This will allow the very young, the intoxicated, the blind, the elderly, the disabled and others to move about freely without feeling like they are bothering others.

Commuters are promised to be able to catch up on work, watch movies, play games and study.

When vehicles serve as mobile offices – or even mobile living rooms – it will change how people think about their daily commute.

With immersive Virtual Reality (VR) in the cars, people will find themselves spending more time in their vehicles even when they do not want to go anywhere.

Three major changes are coming:

First, your vehicle will soon intelligently anticipate your needs. It will know when and where your doctor appointment is, and that there is a traffic jam it needs to avoid.

Second, you will not be sitting in front of a steering wheel. Hands-free voice control, and even gesture interaction will make the car seem magically to know your desires.

Third, VR immersive experiences can be driving you through Ancient Rome to see the colosseum while you are really on the way to grandma’s house in Eads. You can have true-to-life experiences of walking in video games, stadium concerts and big games while on the way to the dentist. Vehicles will become mobile offices, allowing professionals to get work done on the way to the airport, a restaurant, or their homes.

Huawei imagines this reality:

A group of people decide they want a pizza while the car automatically is driving them across town with no time to stop. Mobility-as-a-service providers will select a high-rated pizzeria located along the planned route, and order the pizza in advance. The restaurant will then prepare the food, which will be collected by a drone.

When the vehicle arrives at the designated handover location, its sunroof will automatically open and the drone will lower the food inside.

This is a level of service that can only be achieved when every part of the process is seamlessly connected.

Safety will be enhanced in many ways, as the cars talk to one another and allow safer movements.

If a car a mile ahead sees dangerous debris on the road, every car behind it is told.

But what happens when the computer crashes?
